First Day of School 2007

Okay, okay, so I would be perpetuating a fraud if I continued to mislead and make you all believe that these pics are really from the first day of school. It's just that I have never heard of someone publishing about the 19th day of school. At least it is still the first quarter of school. So to all of you moms out there that really took pictures on the actual first day of school: hats off to you, you're a better (and certainly more organized) woman than me.

Maya in her all of her favorites: Favorite hair-do (Kitty-cat ears), her favorite uniform shirt (red), her favorite jumper (blue), and her favorite shoes (pink sketchers which coordinate very nicely with the rest of the ensemble, I think. sidebar: there is P.E. everyday so they have to wear tennis shoes everyday. I think that some cute little mary janes would look totally cute but... )

Foster is actually wearing his teacher's favorite pants, as these are the ones that he can hook and unhook without assistance. He is loving kindergarten. We have all day, everyday kindergarten here so I was a little concerned about how he would do. He is definitely fried by the end of the week but is really enjoying two recesses, P.E. everyday, eating lunch at school, and naptime (okay so maybe he doesn't love naptime, but as he has actually fallen asleep several times, he definitely needs it.) I was also a little concerned about how he would do with the talking thing. Foster loves to chatter! Consequently, I received a note home about curbing the talking on the second day of school. He has since done much better. His words: "I learned my lesson." Apparently corporal punishment works. j/k. One funny story about Foster and meeting friends: He met a boy in the car-rider line (the line that the kids wait in for their moms and dads to pick them up after school). Foster has been really excited about this friend. He has described him to me in detail. I have gathered that he is a little older than Foster, really cool, has a Nintendo 64, and black. One problem: Foster has a hard time with his name. Upon hearing his name, Foster said, "Well, I'm gonna have a hard time with that. Can I just call you Evan?" Whatever works.

Our two little school-kids together. I love that they can kind of watch out for eachother while they're at school. I also love that they are really enjoying school this year, so far. (Maya really struggled last year.) I, selfishly, especially love how clean my house stays from the hours of 8am to 3:30pm.

What fun changes for you Jennifer! Before you know it those 2 will be in high school together watching each other's backs. Very cute and growing up way to fast.

Love them! Of course, I love the stories too. I also, weirdly, love uniforms for school. I hope Merrit goes to a school that requires them. They looks so sharp. But the tennis shoe thing is weird...I agree that mary jane's and uniforms just go together. Ooo, and knee high white socks - so cute. And boys should wear brown loafer type shoes. Curse you, school administrators!! Fashion spoilers! Glad you posted again!

They are so grown up!! Cute pictures. I am envious of your "8 am-3:30pm clean house" :) Which reminds me, we still haven't seen any pics of the afore mentioned house...

Hey Millers! We miss you guys! I too can't wait until Dante starts full time school for the clean house purpose. Although, now that I think of it, our little one "to be", will be like 20 months by then. So, nevermind, that will never happen for me! Oh well!

Amy: Definitely growing up way too fast!
Tanya: I really love the uniform thing, too. I wasn't sure at first, but I have since become convinced. The girls are allowed to wear tights with their jumpers and skorts, but, sadly, no knee-highs. They actually can wear other shoes than tennies, but Maya is extraordinarly hard on all things that go on her body, especially shoes. She wore Mary-Janes twice last year but came home with the toes completly scuffed.
Lydia: About the house pics... I still have little projects here and there that need to be done, that is why I have been waiting to post. Maybe I should come out of my OCD shell and post anyway.
Jennifer: It is a different kind of clean with a little widget around. Ella has entered the pulling things out of cupboards and drawer stage. I can still pretty much keep up with her at this point, but I know that that is only a matter of time. Much easier than the come home from school and throw all of your personal belongings all over the floor and then proceed to the playroom and play wildly and dirtily until bedtime stage.

How neat to see them growing up, whether it's the 1st or the 19th day of school. I think I stressed out myself and my kids by insisting they have a picture taken on "the day" it started. What was I thinking? More power to the 19th day!

I have no tolerance for a 19th day picture taker - absolutely no excuse for such poor parenting. Your kids will forever look back at these pictures and wonder what they looked like on the first day of school - wondering why their mother was too busy to take the 30 seconds required for a picture. I guess the kids know where they stand on the priority list. I wonder what future issues your children will have that you will trace back to this.

Tyler. Question. In your home, is it the father or the mother that does this "supposed" first day picture-taking? I'm just going to assume that it is Jenni that does this task as I am not even convinced that you understand the mysterious workings of a camera. Consequently, you have no soapbox to stand on as you are not even the "responsible" party. Furthermore, what proof do any of us have that said "picture" was even actually taken on the first day of school? For all we know, the "responsible" mother could have changed the child's clothes, had the child stand on steps varying in height, and done five years' worth of "First Day" photos in twenty minutes time. Hmmm...There is something in the back of my prodigious mind about Kolby having worn the same shirt for the first day of school three years in a row... I thought it was fishy that the shirt still fits. In fact, staging a "First Day" picture that is really not is far more nefarious than admitting that I didn't get around to the task until day 19. Solid proof that you are no better than I.

I feel a sense of accomplishment that you used both prodigious and nefarious in your scathing comeback - you always use such big words when you are angry. In fact, I hear that Foster once debated antidisestablishmentarianism with his teacher to get out of taking a nap.
