7 Things, Cont.

So I am a blogging idiot. I have just learned that while I can only upload 5 pics at a time, I can upload more within the same post. I haven't technically posted in over a year. That is my excuse. If you want to read the 7 things in order, scroll down for the first three and come back to this post. Sorry. Anyway, as I am sure everyone is waiting with baited breath to see what is next, here goes:
4) Designing and re-designing furniture. While I love decorating, I am very cheap and I can never quite find exactly what I want in the store, anyway, so I often make up my own stuff. I designed this and Jon begrudgingly built it for me and it is working out really well for us. It is still in my design plan for him to build three boxes on wheels to go in the cubbies underneath, but he is totally sick of working for me. As he built this over a year ago, I have learned to cope with the baskets. While I really like how this piece turned out, it is sort of a let-down to open it up and expect to see a giant tv inside, only to find our dinky little 27 incher. It is always my secret hope that the sneaky tv-fairies will spirit away our old set in the night and surprise with a beautiful, new, giant one.

5) School Pictures. I hate them. Or rather, they hate me. I always had the same feeling when school picture time would roll around. Excitement that this would be the year that my picture would be so good that the photographer would be forced to use it as an advertisement in all of their brochures and that all of my classmates would beg to have a wallet-sized momento. Maybe I wasn't an attractive enough child. I don't know. Anyway, these hopes were always dashed. I like to think that it wasn't my fault. Maybe it was the parent that volunteered to help with picture day sabotaging me. Using that little black comb to ruin my perfection of a hair-do. Who knows. Be that as it may, I have never taken a good school picture and I am very sad to report that my children are following in my un-photogenic footsteps.

Do you see what I mean about the hair? Even at the tender age of eight, I would not have left the house with a butt-part. Darn you parent helper and your disgusting comb that you used on every child in the class except for your own! How sad for me that I had two attempts in the same photo to get a good one. Sadly serious Jenny just looks really freaked out and smiling Jenny isn't much better.

This is Foster's misguided attempt. At least you don't have to prepay and they give you the proof so you can decide if the picture is worth buying. I like to call this picture "The Jack-O-Lantern." (His real smile is really much cuter!)

Yikes! What can be said? In an attempt to get a smile out of Maya, the photographer inadvertantly frightened away her upper lip. Time to choose my favorite smile. Hmmm, sepia, black and white, or color? So many choices. What to do? I know, save the 50.00 a package and buy none!

6) Hair Product. Love it. Can't get enough of it. Wish I could marry it. And yet, 13 days out of 14 my hair remains in a ponytail.

7) Holiday Decorating. How great is it to have an excuse to decorate every other month? Sorry about the picture quality. A photographer I am not.

I was laughing so hard at those pics, my kids came to check on me :) Oh, the 80s! And Maya's lip... WOW. WHat in the world was that photog thinking?

Hilarious pics!! Poor Maya, it looks like she is trying so hard to look cute, at least her hair couldn't be ruined by some well-meaning parent volunteer into a butt-part;) Jeff and I were cracking up over the pics, and my favorite is the 'pick your favorite smile' at the top.

I am busting a gut over Maya's pic. That is just classic! She is so darling and then...THE LIP! I am also peeing myself over your school pic. Not because you are funny-looking but because I had those SAME glasses and that SAME profile school pic but I am SEVERAL years older than you. Just sad to know there was really no style progress in eyewear in the eighties!

Courtney: My thoughts exactly. Did they not have eyes to see? I don't know if you are familiar with the Junie B. books, but if you are, Maya said that she should put this picture under her bed to scare away the monster. (Junie B. Jones and There's a Monster Under My Bed.)

Jenete and Vicki: Would've been a cute picture had she been wearing a veil, huh? As far as the glasses go, I could totally devote an entire post to them. I was uber proud because they were "Annie" glasses. I had a little crush on her.

I am still laughing at those pictures as I write this! Madison is in a time out and is asking "What's so funny?" To think that someone was at a computer and had to print those proofs off. They probably have six pack abs from laughing so hard! What a great place to work so long as you aren't in customer service getting calls from parents demanding why 2 or 3 pictures weren't taken. I'm glad you can laugh at yourself and your kids. You made my day.

Your decorating is beautiful. Ella's room is so pretty. You are really talented. I'll hire you to decorate my place!!!

I still carry that picture of you in my wallet to show people when I get an opportunity to talk about your family. By the way, didn't you have a brother whose picture was taken for an advertisement?

WOWZA! What more is there to say? I too was laughing out loud at your photos when Mikayla heard me and had to abandon her homework to come see what was so funny. I showed her. She understood! She is TOTALLY jealous of Ella's bedroom! ;-)

Alana and Alicia: I would love to do any work for you. I'll do it for free if you will pay may way to get to you! :)

Foster Family (a.k.a. "Joey"): I do recall a certain brother being a model for candy fundraising pamphlets. As I recall, candy sales plummeted that year and they had to discontinue the brocures immediately. Sad.

Oh MAN! What a great post... I really can't believe that photographer either... You truly have a talent in design... I'm in love with Ella's room... Perfect!!! and great job designing the entertainment center :D

Of course, I love and appreciate all the design work. I have seen all those school pictures and I was still laughing out loud. And when I showed Ryan, I laughed again. I had an Annie crush too - but mine was because I had red hair and my brothers convinced me that I was adopted. Mean. I'm still waiting for Daddy Warbucks to come find me. Where are you??? I think I'll have to settle for a bald Ryan. I had forgotten about the cheap, black plastic combs...memories. How pathetic that I have almost all the same hair product. With all the love in my heart, if you lose that card and I can't buy more product, it will be over Jennifer Miller.

JenM. said...

Tanya: I am just keeping the card safe for you because I know all about your careless ways and the propendancy you have of losing things.

Okay, you have to warn us to stop drinking our water before we see pictures like those!!! I almost spit water on the computer screen :D

You do have such a talent for decorating! Beautiful!

Well don't I feel dumb for being the 16th to comment on your most hilarious post. The answer. . . .Yes, I do. Nevertheless, not only did I cry from laughter but I cried because I miss you more than ever when I read the witty things you say and remember how it used to be with you around.

Okay, so I usually just spy on people's blogs and rarely make comments, but I have say that you made my day by posting the school photos! I thought my kids were the only ones to get in front of a school photo camera and suddenly make the most ridiculous smile I've ever seen! Where do these insane smiles come from? Jen Miller, you are officially hilarious and my new favorite person. This is Jill Stewart by the way- not Rich.
